What Honda & Acura Timing Belt Replacement Really Costs in Orlando
By the Import Auto Service Center team · 35+ years of Honda & Acura experience · Updated
Timing belt quotes vary wildly around Orlando — not because shops price labor differently, but because they're quoting different jobs. Here's how to compare them properly.
Which Hondas and Acuras have a timing belt at all
Only the V6 engines. Honda's J-series V6 — found in the Accord V6, Odyssey, Pilot, Ridgeline — and the Acura V6 in the MDX, RDX (first generation), TL, TSX V6 and RL all use a rubber timing belt that must be replaced on an interval.
Four-cylinder Hondas and Acuras built in the last two decades — Civic, CR-V, four-cylinder Accord, ILX, most TLX four-cylinders — use a timing chain instead. A chain is designed to last the life of the engine and is not a maintenance item. If a shop quotes you a timing belt on a four-cylinder Civic, that's your signal to get a second opinion.
Honda's published interval on most V6 applications is roughly 100,000 miles or 7 years, whichever comes first. The time limit matters as much as the mileage in Florida: heat and humidity degrade rubber whether or not you're driving.
Why the price gap between two quotes is usually about parts
The belt itself is one of the cheaper components in the job. Most of the cost is labor to get to it — and once you're in there, several parts driven by that same belt should be replaced at the same time, because doing them later means paying that labor twice.
A complete Honda or Acura timing belt service should include:
What actually moves your number up or down
Your specific engine and model year
Access differs significantly between a Pilot, an Odyssey, and a TL. Some require more disassembly to reach the belt, and that's real labor time.
Whether the water pump and pulleys are included
A quote without them looks cheaper today and costs far more the day the pump fails. Always ask what's in the kit.
What we find once it's apart
Leaking cam seals, a failing tensioner, or contaminated coolant change the scope. We photograph anything like that and get your approval before continuing.
Parts quality
We use OEM or OE-equivalent kits from the same manufacturers that supply Honda. Cheap aftermarket belt kits are a common cause of repeat failure.
The cost of not doing it
Honda and Acura V6 engines are interference engines. If the belt snaps while the engine is running, the pistons strike open valves. The result is bent valves and often damaged pistons and heads — an engine repair that costs several times what the timing belt service would have.
There's no warning noise before a timing belt lets go. That's why it's replaced on an interval instead of on symptoms. If you're past the mileage or past seven years, it's overdue, not 'coming up'.
How we quote it
We don't publish flat prices, because an honest number depends on your exact model, engine, and what we find on inspection. What we will do is give you a written, itemized estimate before any work starts — and you approve it line by line from your phone.
